TEACHER UNIONS HAILS GOVT

Various Teacher Unions have hailed government for recruiting more than two thousand teachers this year.
Speaking to ZNBC news in a telephone interview, Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia General Secretary Jeffrey Simuntala said the recruitment has come at a better time when the education sector is struggling with the issue of teacher pupil ratio.
Mr. Simuntala said with the many schools’ government has constructed across the country, it is important that more teachers are recruited.
He has since appealed to the recruited teachers not to shun appointments in rural areas.
And Zambia National Union of Teachers General Secretary, Newman Bubala said all teacher unions were involved in the selection process.
He said this time no one will complain on the recruitment process because they were all picked on merit.
Mr. Bubala thanked the Teaching Service Commission for making the selection process of teachers as transparent as possible.
