TEACHER UNIONS COMMEND GOVT

The Secondary Schools Teachers Union of Zambia -SESTUZ- has commended General Education Minister David Mabuba for asking schools to refrain from forcing parents to buy school uniforms from them.
SESTUZ General Secretary Sitobekiso Wamuyuwa has observed that parents’ rights were being infringed upon by school authorities who dictated that school Uniforms be bought from Schools.
Mr. Wamuyuwa has told ZNBC News in an interview that the Minister’s stance will help many parents who felt threatened to lose their children’s school places by not having enough money for uniforms.
And the Basic Education School Teachers Union of Zambia -BETUZ- in Southern Province says it is happy that 209 teachers have been recruited in the recently held teacher recruitment exercise in the province.
BETUZ southern province deputy director Basil Hibajene said in an interview with ZANIS that the recruitment of the new teachers will help address the shortage of staff in the province.
Mr. Hibajene however, appealed to government to consider recruiting more Science and Mathematics teachers in the next recruitment exercise.
