Teacher Unions Back Removal of G7 Exams

Various teacher unions are in support of government’s plans to remove grade seven examinations.Zambia National Union of Teachers -ZNUT- General Secretary Newman Bubala says the move will help to enhance education reforms.Mr. Bubala says education is not about exams but to help learners develop a critical skill for the future.And National Union for Public and Private Educators -NUPPEZ- President Victor Muyemba said continuing with grade seven examinations is a cost on government.Meanwhile, Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia -BETUZ- Acting general Secretary Henry Sinkala said grade seven examinations have lost the relevance.Mr. Sinkala said in the absence of the Grade seven examinations continued assessment must take the centre stage to improve the quality of education.General Education Minister, David Mabumba yesterday announced that government is this year expected to make consultations with stakeholders in the education sector on the relevance of the grade seven examinations.
