Lusaka, Zambia24 (28-02-24) – Texila American University Zambia and the Zambia Union of Nurses Organisation (ZUNO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote collaboration in advancing nursing education and practice in the country.

During the signing ceremony, Professor Ajay Poddar, Vice Chancellor at Texila American University, emphasized the indispensable role nurses play in healthcare, both in Zambia and across Africa.

Prof. Poddar highlighted the university’s commitment to bolstering higher education across various sectors, including nursing, alongside management and technology.

He underscored TAU’s dedication to fostering academic excellence, particularly in nursing, through workshops, training programs, and initiatives aimed at elevating standards.

Prof. Poddar noted the evolving landscape of nursing qualifications, emphasizing TAU’s commitment to offering cutting-edge education that meets industry demands.

The university advocates for a holistic approach to nursing education, encouraging proficiency in clinical competencies as well as supplementary areas like information technology and communication.

Furthermore, TAU aims to empower nurses to assume leadership roles through comprehensive programs nurturing leadership skills and critical thinking.

Fray Michelo, President of ZUNO, praised the partnership for extending discounted education fees to ZUNO members and their families, fostering growth and empowerment within the nursing community.

The collaboration signifies a significant step towards advancing nursing education and improving healthcare outcomes in Zambia.

Tisa Meleka Chiponda, outgoing ZUNO president, highlighted the promising start of the initiative and anticipated increased participation and benefits through continued collaboration outlined in the memorandum of understanding.

Chiponda emphasized ZUNO’s commitment to providing enhanced educational opportunities, including tailored short courses for organizational leaders.

She expressed dedication to advocating for shared objectives and urged continued collaboration for the benefit of the midwifery community.

Mr. Sunil Tongaria, Head of Marketing, announced a significant expansion of campus facilities, including state-of-the-art facilities for human anatomy studies, tailored programs, and collaboration with industry partners to meet diverse industry needs and promote continuous growth.
