Tanzania, Uganda willing to export maize to Zambia

Chief Government spokesperson CORNELIUS MWEETWA says TANZANIA and UGANDA have indicated their willingness to export maize to Zambia.

Mr. MWEETWA says the two nations’ are willing to help Zambia, because of the cordial relations.

He says there is therefore no need for panic buying of maize because government will ensure that the commodity remains more accessible and affordable on the market.

Mr. MWEETWA, who is also Information and Media Minister, said this during a Media engagement in Livingstone, today.

Meanwhile, Mr. MWEETWA said the government will soon conduct a crop harvest survey to ascertain the estimated production of maize from the 2023 – 2024 farming season.

He said the survey is key as it will enable government to accurately estimate the required amount of maize to be sourced to ensure food security in the country.

Mr. MWEETWA also underscored the need for Zambia to shift from depending on hydro electricity but move to solar energy.

In another development, Mr. MWEETWA said government will ensure that the political stability being enjoyed now is maintained.

Mr. MWEETWA said yesterday’s commemoration of the International Women’s Day, was evidence that the political space in Zambia has become accommodative and free of violence, contrary to insinuations peddled by other political players.

He has urged the youths to emulate the women to commemorate Youth Day free of violence.
