TAKE ADVANTAGE OF GOVT’s DIVERSIFICATION PROGRAMME

(NAIS) Kasama District Agricultural Coordinator Boniface Mwalongo has urged farmers to take advantage of legumes given by government under the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP) to practice crop diversification.

Speaking during the monitoring on the utilization of FISP inputs in Kasama, Mr. Mwalongo said government distributed maize and legume seeds to support the crop diversification agenda.

Mr. Mwalongo observed that some farmers do not understand the reasons the government added legumes on the FISP pack.

He has however hailed farmers performance this year attributing it to early distribution of inputs by the government.

Mr. Mwalongo added that most farmers planted their crops on time which is likely to lead to increased crop production.

And Kasama District Marketing Development Officer, Musaka Chikobola added that FISP deposits were made on time due to governments efforts to pay farmers who sold their maize to Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

And one of the beneficiaries in Mulanshi Agricultural Camp, Tanacio Mutale commended government for distributing the farming inputs on time.

Mr Mutale also appealed to government to consider increasing the number of inputs given in a pack as well as the number of beneficiary farmers.
