SWIMMERS MINT TWO MEDALSÂ
By Chansa Kunda:Zambian Swimmers have minted two medals at the ongoing CANA Zone IV tournament which is being hosted by Botswana.Budding Swimmer Mia Phiri got silver in the 100 metres Backstroke category with a time of 1 minute and nine seconds.The other medal came from Ralph Goveia, who settled for a Bronze medal in the 50 metres Breaststroke with a time of 30.64 seconds.Delegation leader Tinky Naidu says the two Zambian national age group records were broken by two Zambian swimmers.She says Jack Zeravica managed to smash the 100 metres Backstroke with a time of 1 minute 22 seconds while the second one was Nkosi Tembo in the 100 metres Backstroke with a time of1 minute and nine seconds.Meanwhile, Zambia is in fifth position out of the 13 competing countries at the tournament in Botswana.Zimbabwe tops the list with 11 medals with Five Gold, three Silver and three Bronze while Namibia is in second with 13 comprising four gold medals, four Silver medals and five Bronze.Meanwhile in Boxing Zambian boxer Patrick Chinyemba put up a splendid performance at the ongoing Africa Olympic qualifiers boxing tournament in Senegal.Chinyemba proved too good for his opponent Mubiru Disan of Uganda who he managed to beat on unanimous points decision in the preliminary round.And Zambia Boxing Federation -ZBF-General Secretary Bright Chomba says the boxer had put up a splendid performance at the tournament and is hoping to continue with the same pace.Chomba says he is expecting a similar performance from Stephen Zimba, who will take to the Canvas tomorrow.Zambia is being represented by three boxers at the tournament comprising of Patrick Chinyemba, Stephen Zimba and Evaristo Mulenga who is seeded and will avoid the preliminary stages.
