Sven keeping tabs on Malawi for U23 technical bench
Zambia U23 national team assistant coach Bilton Musonda has revealed that they are using the senior national team coach Sven Vandenbrook to keep tabs on Malawi ahead of their Egypt 2019 U23 AFCON second round two legged qualifier set for next month.
Malawi U23 are currently in Belgium with the senior flames coach Ronny Van Geneugden who is a Belgian and facilitated the trip.
“Yes we are keeping tabs on Malawi. We have the national team coach Sven Vandenbrook who is from Belgium and Malawi are using their senior team coach who is also from Belgium hence we using him to keep tabs on the team, †he said.

While in Belgium Malawi are scheduled to play seven friendly matches including a battle with top Belgian club Genk. The Malawi coach spent six years at Genk changing coaching roles between youth and senior team from 2003-2009.
The ‘Dream Team’ on the other hand have been having three day camps for sometime now but will enter residential camp next week.
“This is the last week we are going for three days once we re-group only those who will be playing on the weekend will be allowed to leave camp others will be remaining as we will enter residential camp,†Musonda said.
The former Green Buffaloes boss also revealed that the technical bench had taken time to scrutinise the players and leave out those who are not eligible for the AFCON tournament but may still be U23.
“We have eliminated those that are under-23 but are not eligible for the tournament because they were born in 1996. We should have players who were born in January 1997,†he said.
Zambia will be away to Malawi on March 20 before hosting the junior flames four days later in Lusaka. Should Zambia get the better of Malawi they will face either Congo Brazzaville or Burundi in the final qualifying round.
At the tournament in Egypt which will have eight teams, The top three will qualify to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
