By HOPE BWALYA –
A SUSPECTED Patriotic Front (PF) cadre has been arrested in connection with the violence that happened in Kanyama Township in Lusaka.
Police assistant public relations office Esther Katongo said the suspected cadre, Kufekisa Sikota with other youths who claimed to be PF cadres, on Tuesday morning attacked the United Party for National
Development (UPND) parliamentary candidate Samuel Mwale.
Ms Katongo said in a statement yesterday that Mr Mwale was attacked when he was preparing for a public address in Kanyama at Lady Diana School.
“We have arrested one suspected PF cadre identified as Kufekisa Sikota, aged 22, in connection with the violence experienced in Kanyama around 10:00 hours yesterday, where a UPND parliamentary candidate, Samuel Mwale, was attacked by a group of youths suspected to be PF supporters as he was mounting a public address system on his vehicle near his school, Lady Diana,” she said.
Ms Katongo said the suspects stoned Mr Mwale’s vehicle, shattered some window panes at his institution and stole an amplifier and speakers from him.
She said the police were still investigating the matter.
Police have said they will apprehend any person found perpetuating violence regardless of political affiliation in order to secure peace in the country.
