Irate residents of Matero Township yesterday almost set ablaze a suspect who is believed to have been part of a gang behind the recent spate of gassing of houses in Lusaka.
According to information obtained by a Phoenix News crew that rushed to Matero police where the suspect was taken for refugee, the man had attempted to gas one of the households when he was caught.
And some residents were found waiting for police action at Matero police station.
Some residents expressed fear that the area is no longer safe and called for enhanced police patrols to ensure the criminal activities are put to a halt.
Yesterday, Deputy Inspector General of Police Bonnie Kapeso disclosed that so far, 13 suspects have been arrested in connection with gassing activities in both Lusaka and Copperbelt and that police patrol will be intensified.
