Sureties jailed after Chinese fraudsters disappear

Six Zambians that have been sentenced to four months imprisonment after four Chinese nationals they signed bail for disappeared.

The six have also been fined K20,000 each, without which they will serve an extra five months jail.

The four Chinese nationals who are on the run were charged for being in possession of 55 counterfeit ATM cards which they were allegedly using to withdraw money from various ATM machines.

The four disappeared last month after the Lusaka Magistrates Court granted them a cash bail of K15,000 each.

The court has since issued a bench warrant against them.

In this case, Fang Ping, aged 44, a businessman, Yu Feing, 36, Zhuang Wei, 35, a contractor and LuoTao an interior designer are facing six counts of unauthorized access to intercept data and being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
