“SUPPORT MOPANI TAKE OVER”

A consortium of Small-Scale Miners in Kitwe has urged Zambians to support government’s move to acquire a majority stake in Mopani as it will empower locals and improve the economy.

Association spokesperson Samson Mpembwa says the buying of the majority shares in Mopani is beneficial to Zambians.

Speaking in an interview with ZNBC news in Kitwe today, Mr. Mpembwa says Zambians should support the government for the bold steps the administration is undertaking to realign the country’s mining sector.

And Chapamo Mineral Resources Director Kelvin Tembo says it is time Zambians took the mantle to steer the country’s economy in the direction it wants by owning key strategic sectors like mines.

Mr. Tembo has since called on ZCCM-IH and the new management at Mopani to ensure that the mine is run profitably to prove to the rest of the world that Zambians are capable of running their economy.

Meanwhile Chapamo Mineral Resources Operations Director Hebbian Chibale says the taking over of the running of the mines will create jobs in the sector.

Mr.  Chibale says local contractors now have an opportunity to supply their goods and services.
