Support HH, GBM at UPND congress – Mpundu

UPND chairman for industrial development Bernard Mpundu has cautioned the partys structures in Nyimba district against selling their political birthright for a worthless amount of money or political regalia. Speaking during a membership mobilisation meeting in Nyimba, Eastern Province, on Wednesday, Mpundu told the partys structures not to bother about UPND leader Hakainde Hichilemas tribe.

He urged the gathering to continue rendering unflinching support to Hichilema and the opposition partys vice-president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba.

Dont be so concerned about somebodys tribe – it should never be in your language. Even when you voted for your own son (President Edgar Lungu), there is nothing that is different from you and us because njala sisanka (hunger does not choose) and thats why Hakainde is ready to die for you. He will continue talking for the poor! For as long as you are feeling the bad governance of [President] Lungu, come along with Hakainde [and] you will not be segregated in UPND. Lets remove this tribal tag, Mpundu said.

Today we want to vote because we have chewed; chitenge material today is determining a vote, a T–shirt is determining a vote. Nyimba, I want you to tell me; are you going to sell your birthright over K20 or chitenge?

Mpundu told the structures to support Hichilema and GBM at the UPNDs forthcoming general congress.
