Sudanese Ambassador to Zambia Hussein Awad Ali told journalists at a media briefing Sunday that the preliminary peace deal which was entered into on July 5th 2019 will not only put Sudan under a control of a Joint Sovereignty Council but also lead to power exchanging hands between the military and the civilian leadership over a period of time.
During this transition, Ambassador Ali will be led by the Sovereignty Council will consist of five military personnel five civilians and an additional civilian who will be selected and agreed upon by both leadership.
According Ambassador Ali, the military rulers will lead Sudan for 21 months before civilian leaders takes over for 18 months.
Thereafter, Ambassador Ali explained, the first ever democratic elections which will give the people the right to choose the leadership of their choice will be called.
Besides Ambassador Ali disclosed, That Military Transitional Council and the Civilian leaders will also launch not only a Transperancy but also independent investigations to establish the cause of the June 3rd violence which led to the attack of the brutal attack of the pro democracy protestors in Khartoum.
“This was after the demonstration erupt on December 19th 2018 when Sudanese protestors took to the street to protest against the former rule of president Omar Albashir.”
He indicated that the demonstration was sparked by the government increased in prices of basic commodities and the general collapse of the economy  which characterised the rule of Al Bashir.
He suggested that Sudanese from all walks of life took part in the demonstration which was organised and led by the Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA) which is a coalition of several professional unions.
As a result of these protests, Ambassador Ali explained the military overthrew and arrested President Al Bashir to mark the decades of autocratic rule and TMC led by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah assumed power.
Despite this development, Ambassador Ali explained, protests led by the Force for Freedom and Change (FFC) against the military rule continued demanding that the military hand over the power to a civilian led interim body.
After months long of standoff from negotiations between the military and the civilian leaders of the protestors, talks resumed this week leading to this peace deal.
