Stream A proving difficult for ‘toothless’ Leopards

The Zambian Super League Week 5 came alive on Saturday and there was no significant changes to the table in Stream A. Log leaders, Zanaco continued with their perfect run with their fourth win of the season when red hot Roger Kola netted the only goal of the match when they played host to Nakambala Leopards.

What is more interesting in Stream A is the relegation fight that has started already, Very early in this short league season. Prison Leopards have been rooted to the bottom of the table since week one and are yet to test victory from five games.

If the results fom the first five games is anything to go by the Kabwe based side has a lot of work to do. The statistics are not in their favor having allowed six goals with only to goals to their credit. The goal difference will haunt them when the need comes to consider those statistics.

Prisons have not done well in away games, losing two games on the road against Mufulira Leopards 3-0, and Lusaka Dynamos via a 1-0 score line. The team has only managed three points from their home games, drawing 0-0 against Green Buffaloes, 1-all with Red Arrows which was also followed with another 1-all draw against Kitwe United.

Another struggling Leopard, is based in Mazabuka, Nakambala Leopards. Coach Zeddy Sailetti has not found the journey easy with his new side. On opening day Nakambala Leopards, posted a 1-0 win against Kitwe United. In what looked like a promising season for Nakambala match day two was against a giant in Zesco United away at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Nakambala Leopards failed to get a point on the road in Ndola, losing by 2-0 to Zesco United before suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Green Buffaloes 3-0 on the day, which meant six points dropped in a space of three days for the Mazabuka based side.

The home game against Kabwe Warriors also resulted in defeat, with the most recent one being against Zanaco, losing by 1-0.

Just like Prison Leopards, Nakambala have scored only two goals, the coaches will be concerned about the number of goals the defense has leaked in the first five games of the season. With only four games before playing the return matches, Nakambala have only managed to collect four points from a possible fifteen points.

For the two Leopards they will need to start working hard to get the needed points from the next four games. The only consolation for them is the fact that teams above them have not collected has much points has expected, Mufulira Wonders (5th), Green Buffaloes (6th), Red Arrows (7th) all on five points, while Kitwe United (8th) have four points level with Nakambala Leopards and only a point better than Prison Leopards.

Nakambala Leopards’ next match will be another away fixture to Mufulira Wanderers while Prison Leopards are expecting a difficult encounter against Zesco United at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
