STORM DEVASTATES CHINSALI

A storm has left a trail of destruction in Chinsali – Muchinga province with roofs blown off from several schools and other structures in the district.
Chinsali Mayor Thomas Mutale, who assessed the damage at Mishishi Primary School which is the most affected, said what was experienced yesterday afternoon in Chinsali is a disaster.
Mr. Mutale charged that natural disasters are uncontrollable adding that Government will, however, urgently address the situation.
He has called on the Disaster Management and Mitigating Unit -DMMU- to quickly come on board by rendering help especially to the affected schools.
Mr. Mutale has also assured the school management at Mishishi of Government’s quick intervention through his office.
He further expressed comfort that there were no casualties reported.
Meanwhile, Mishishi School headteacher, Audrey Chaiwila thanked the local authority for urgently responding to the situation by assessing the disaster at the school.
Chinsali district experienced a heavy downpour in the late hours of Wednesday resulting in some schools having their roofs blown off.
