STOP PRODUCING 10 KGS, 25 KGS ONLY

By Frank Ching’ambu:Special Assistant to the President for Economic and Development Affairs, Hibeene Mwiinga has directed a Luanshya based milling company, Antelope Milling, to immediately stop packaging mealie meal in 10 kilogram bags, but in 25 kg bags.Mr. Mwiinga has observed that Antelope milling company was making supernormal profits from the smaller quantities of mealie meal contrary to the rules of the tripartite deal.He said this after conducting a random check at Shoprite and SGC mini market where a 10 kg bag was being sold at K69 and K74, respectively tallying  to over K200 per 25 kg bag when added.Mr. Mwiinga, who was in the company of his counterparts for Project Monitoring and Implementation Andrew Chela and Legal Affairs, Sukwana Lukangaba, also got shocked to learn that Shoprite checkers was making a mark-up of K20 per 10 kg bag.He immediately called Shoprite General Manager, Charles BOTA and ordered that the Chain store reduces the price from K89 to K69 and ensure that only a mark – up of K5 is made on every 10 kg adding that a 25 kg bag of mealie meal should cost K137 only.And Mr. Mwiinga has also instructed Minister of agriculture Permanent Secretary, Songowayo Zyambo to include Sunshine Millers on the dispatch of maize destined to the Copperbelt to ensure steady supply of the commodity.
