SOUTHERN PROVINCE EXPECTING POOR HARVEST

(ZANIS) Southern Province Minister CORNELIUS MWEETWA says the region is threatened with a drop in crop harvest this year.

Mr MWEETWA says this comes after floods in the past months coupled with the current drought which the province is facing.

He was speaking in Choma, when he received a donation of food and other items worth over 400,000 Kwacha from the New Apostolic Church Relief Organization NACRO.

Mr. MWEETWA reiterated the need to have more donations from cooperating partners aimed at cushioning the flood victims whose goods and crop were damaged.

He said the weather focus is currently not favoring the people of Southern province; a situation he stated might cause a drastic drop in this year’s harvest which will in turn result in hunger among the people.

The Minister has however thanked the New Apostolic Church Relief Organization for its unwavering humanitarian support aimed at supplementing Government efforts in providing key social services to the community.

And Apostle in charge of Monze, Mazabuka and Choma EDWIN KASAMU who represented the District Apostle assured government of the church’s availability in the provision of high quality demand driven humanitarian aid that impacts positively on the lives of vuln
rable communities.

Apostle KASAMU also praised government for its swiftness in responding to the plight of the flood victims countrywide.
