SMEs critical to economic development,Mubanga says

By Etambuyu Katota-Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister ELIAS MUBANGA has assured the business community that government is committed to addressing challenges that hinder industries.

Mr. MUBANGA says the private sector is the country’s biggest economic driver that requires support in order to remain productive.

He notes that industries have over the years gone down and government intends to revive industries to ensure that the country is able to make its own money and create employment opportunities.

Mr. MUBANGA has also assured local industries of first priority and support before foreign industries are given opportunities.

He has however urged the business community to take advantage of the country’s business opportunities and formulate ideas that can be actualized.

Mr. MUBANGA was speaking during a Lusaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry – LCCI breakfast meeting in Lusaka .

And LCCI President ALEXANDER LAWRENCE said the private sector is an engine for innovation and employment.

Mr. LAWRENCE said it is important that the private sector and government interacts more often to share opportunities and challenges to seek possible solutions.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic has been the biggest challenge that has affected various business sectors.
