There was confusion this morning in Chingola after small scale miners operating at the Senseli tailings were denied access to the closed mine site.

The small-scale miners protested the development prompting the police to disperse them using tear gas.

The small-scale miners later moved to the district commissioner’s office demanding to be addressed by the authorities.

And, Mines Minister PAUL KABUSWE has called for calm from small scale miners on the Copperbelt as government is already working on formalizing their operations.

Mr. KABUSWE said government wants to create a safe working environment for the small-scale miners on the Copperbelt.

He has told ZNBC News in Chingola that the small scale miners must exercise patience because the process to formalize their operations will soon be concluded.
