By Mary Mwiinga:Labour and Social Security Minister Joyce Simukoko has urged the Workers Compensation Fund Control Board -WCFCB- to ensure that workers especially in the informal sector are covered by the compensation system.Ms. Simukoko says government will continue to monitor the implementation of policies that seek to deliver a well-functioning social security system.The Minister is impressed with the pace at which the institution improved the operations of workers compensation in the country after its re-organization.Ms. Simukoko praised the board for improving the compensation benefits which had remained meagre for a long time and urged the management to continue improving benefits.She said the recent upward adjustment in monthly pensions is attributed to the restriction of political interference in the running of the institution by the Patriotic Front government.Ms. Simukoko was speaking during a Farewell dinner for WCFCB Board Members and outgoing Commissioner Dr Elizabeth Nkumbumbula in Chisamba yesterday.She praised the outgoing Board for maintaining a worker’s compensation system that supports quality employment and injury protection by implementing structural and organizational changes in a constantly changing business environment.This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Labour Public Relations Officer, Mwiza Mwiya.
