The Zambia Women National Football team has gone down 10 goals to 3 to Netherlands in their maiden appearance at the Olympic games.

And Captain BARBARA BANDA has become the first African women to score three goals at the Olympic games.

The Dutch women, who are ranked fourth in the world proved their worth, netting TEN past HAZEL NALI in goal for Zambia.

VIVIANE MIEDEMA scored FOUR goals for the Netherlands, while BARABA BANDA got a historic hat-trick for the Shepolopolo, finding the back of the net in the 19th, 82nd and 83rd minutes of the match.

Zambian football today returned to the Olympics after 33 years.

The last Olympic qualification for any football team for Zambia was in 1988 when the team famously reached the quarterfinals.

Zambia had also previously qualified for the 1976 and 1980 Olympics although the country boycotted the 1976 Montreal Games for political reasons.

Zambia negotiated its way through a competitive qualification process that saw them sweep aside the indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the final qualifying round in a two-legged tie.

In the first Group F match played earlier today, Brazil sent a strong warning, silencing China by five goals to nil.
