Red Arrows 1 – 0 Green Buffaloes

Zambia Air-force sponsored Red Arrows FC on Saturday afternoon won the battle of the defense forces when they beat Army side Green Buffaloes 1 – 0 at Nkoloma stadium.

Buffaloes will rue the missed chances as they were clearly the better side in the first half creating several chances but were undone by a Bruce Musakanya well taken second half goal.

With Friday Samu missing on the team sheet, Buffaloes coach Charles Bwale played Youremember Banda on top of the attack in a 4 3 3 formation and he was a menace to the Arrows defense anchored by Bronson Chama.

But it was Diamond Chikwekwe who was finding pockets of space in the box and he could have had a hat-trick had he not been wasteful.

Bwale made a change that saw Steward Chikandiwa come in for Robert Musonda in the 25th minute as Buffaloes looked for a solution to their poor showing in front of goal.

However, the best chance of the first half fell to Arrows skipper Bruce Musakanya when a cross from the left found him unmarked in the box but he planted his header narrowly wide with 5 minute to play before the break.

He was however exceptional when he scored after he picked the ball on the edge of the box on the right to beat a cluster of defenders as he charged into the box to expertly finish with a left footed effort in the 53rd minute.

Looking to rescue the game, Bwale gave a debut appearance to wonder-kid Godfrey Mashata from Mtendere East who was signed in the off season when he came in for Chikwekwe.

However, Chisi Mbewe’s squad stood strong and kept their shape well to see off the game.

The result saw Arrows move up on the table into 6th position on 5 points, level with third, fourth and fifth placed Kabwe Warriors, Mufulira Wanderers and Lusaka Dynamos respectively.

Buffaloes on the other hand dropped into 6th position on 4 points from four games.
