SAKANIA BORDER FORMALISED

Acting Finance and National Planning Minister PAUL KABUSWE has signed Statutory Instrument Number 36 of 2022 which will now include Sakania Border among the borders through which goods for exports and transit can exit Zambia into the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC-.

With the issuance of this SI, transporters of designated goods as outlined in the SI can now legally exit through Sakania Border.

Mr KABUSWE says this is in addition to Mokambo and Kasumbalesa borders in the same geographical direction.

He says this is among other planned interventions, expected to contribute towards reduction of congestion at Kasumbalesa Border.

Mr KABUSWE says government has also listened to the complaints on the state of the road and is working on interventions to upgrade the roads leading to Mokambo and Sakania Borders to ease the movement of goods and people.

He says these measures have been taken by the new dawn administration to remove bottlenecks that hinder efficient movement of people and trade facilitation with neighboring countries such as the DRC.

Mr KABUSWE says importers and exporters are also encouraged to take advantage of trade facilitation tools implemented by the Zambia Revenue Authority such as pre-clearance facilities to avoid delays at the borders.

This is according to a statement released to ZNBC News by Ministry of Finance and National Planning.
