SACCORD CONGRATULATIONS PF, UPND

The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes -SACCORD- has congratulated ruling Patriotic Front (PF) for scooping the Chilubi parliamentary by election and local government by-elections in three wards in the Western Province .SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe also congratulated the opposition United Party for National Development for winning the ward by-election in Kalomo in the Southern Province of the Republic of Zambia.Mr Cheembe says the participation in the just ended by-elections make Zambia a competitive multi-party democratic dispensation which is a stem of governance.He also praised the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- for effectively delivering the by-elections.Mr Cheembe further said the just ended by-elections continue to show the dominance of the ruling PF and opposition UPND compared to other political parties that are newly formed who equally continue to make their presence known on the political scene.He however said there is need to reduce the incidences of political violence and urged the electoral stakeholders to utilize the Conflict Management Committees (CMCs) of the ECZ to resolve electoral disputes so that they do not escalate into bigger conflictMr. Cheembe said electoral stakeholders should adhere to electoral laws to avoid sources of conflict.He said through the lessons learnt the country will be able to contribute to the holding of peaceful elections bereft of acts of political violence.
