RTSA secures 860 convictions on Traffic offences for January,2019

THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has secured 860 convictions in the Fast Track Court on Traffic offences in the month of January this year.
RTSA Public Relations Manager Mukela Mangolwa says the highest convictions were for Expired Road Tax with 224 convictions, Expired Test Certificate with 169 convictions, Uninsured Motor Vehicle with 106 convictions, Dangerous Driving with 61 convictions and Driving under the influence of alcohol with 28 convictions.
Mangolwa said other offences were unauthorized use of goods vehicle, Driving a Motor Vehicle in a Dangerous Condition, Use of Handheld Mobile phone while Driving, Use of Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Plying for Hire and Reward and Obstruction of the Highway  by Motor Vehicle.
He said in certain instances, some motorists were found with more than one count.
Meanwhile Mangolwa said Statistics have shown that dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol continue to be major contributors of road traffic accidents in the country.
And the agency convicted a total of 5,286 traffic offenders from January to December, 2018 for violating traffic regulations and laws.
The agency has further informed members of the public that it will sustain its traffic law enforcement programmes countrywide in order to ensure total compliance among motorist and provide safety to all road users.
