RTSA secures 482 convictions in March

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has so far secured 482 convictions in the Lusaka Fast Track Court on Traffic offences in the month of March.

The highest convictions were for expired Road Tax with 171 convictions, expired Test Certificate with 129 convictions, expired/uninsured motor vehicle with 74 convictions, Dangerous Driving with 68 convictions and Unlicensed Driver with 50 convictions among others.

In a statement made available to Q-news, RTSA Public Relations Manager Mukela Mangolwa says statistics have shown that dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol continue to be major contributors of road traffic accidents in the country.

Mr. Mangolwa has reminded members of the public that the agency sustain its traffic law enforcement programmes countrywide in order to ensure total compliance among motorists and provide safety to all road users.

He says as part of this strategy, the Agency recently conducted a country wide operation to enforce compliance to Statutory Instrument No. 76 that restricts the movement of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) to between 05.00hrs to 21.00hrs and another operation in Eastern province targeting general offences.
