RELEASE MAIZE TO CB MILLERS

Government has directed the Food Reserve Agancy -FRA- to start the distribution of maize to Copperbelt based milling companies.Special Assistant to the President for Economic and Development Affairs, Hibeene Mwiinga says the directive is with immediate effect to ensure there is steady supply of mealie-meal on the market.Mr. Mwiinga said after he took a swipe at some selected Milling Companies in Luanshya, Kitwe and Mufulira that he has equally directed Agriculture Permanent Secretary to see to it that all millers under the tripartite agreement on the Copperbelt have been supplied with maize.Mr. Mwiinga, in the company of his counterparts for Project Monitoring and Implementation  Andrew Chela and Legal Affairs Sukwana Lukangaba also emphasised the need for millers to put the recommended retail price on the bags of Mealie meal.He said millers should understand that core the business of the tripartite agreement is to ensure that the consumers buy mealie meal at cheaper price.Further, Mr. Mwiinga has directed district commissioners across the Copperbelt province to closely monitor the sell of Mealie meal by millers and ensure that consumers are NOT exploited.Mr. Mwiinga was not happy after learning that HM Milling in Kitwe had shut down its hammer Mills because it has run out of maize, and directed millers not to hold mealie meal.And, Mr. Chellah urged millers to in the province to increase their daily production and respond to the demand by flooding their outlets with mealie meal.He also directed the millers that any of their traders trying to inflate prices should not be supplied with the commodity.
