The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance -IDEA- has commended Zambia for the role it is playing in promoting democracy in the region.
IDEA Regional Director Africa and West Asia, ROBA SHARAMO says there is democratic progress in Zambia despite challenges that might exist.
Dr. SHARAMO was speaking to ZNBC News in Lusaka today on the sidelines of the Pre-Summit for Democracy.
He noted that the Democracy Summit is being held at a time when democracies are on the decline globally.
And Dr. SHARAMO noted that the participation of African women in parliament is only about 24 percent in the African continent and that this is not good enough.
