Preparations for the reconstruction of a permanent road structure at Kacholola area in Nyimba district on the great east road have commenced.

Housing and Infrastructure Development Permanent Secretary Charles Mushota has told Phoenix News that completion of works will last one and half months from commencement date.

Last week Friday, the construction of a temporary structure was completed following the collapse of the road on the said portion which resulted in stoppage in the movement of heavy vehicles from either side.

Meanwhile, Engineer Mushota says a contractor has been engaged and has started undertaking temporal works on the 247km Kalomo-Itezhi-tezhi climate resilient road that connects southern and central provinces.

The road constructed at a cost of US$20.9 Million last week experienced severe flooding making it unusable to motorists.

Engineer Mushota says the contractor who is expected to work on the road for five years will carry out major works once the rain season is over.
