The Rural Electrification Authority (REA) has signed a Service Level Agreement with the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) on increasing electricity up take in rural communities for duration of five years.

Mr Musonda says ZDA is one of the key and strategic organizations that REA identified as a potential partner that will collaborate with the authority in increasing productivity in rural areas.

He says some of the activities that will be undertaken by REA and ZDA is facilitation of the provision of electricity infrastructure in areas with potential investment in order to attract private investors in such areas.

Mr Musonda says that the partnership will also ensure that investors registered with ZDA are assisted with obtaining relevant permits and other necessary services in an efficient and effective manner among others.

And Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Acting Director General Matongo Matamwandi says development cannot be taken to the rural areas if there is no electricity.

He notes that this has also contributed to urbanization, hence the need for the agreement that will help to take electricity to the rural areas.

Mr Matamwandi adds that the investment process cannot be handled by ZDA alone and this is why it has come to this agreement with the Rural Electrification Authority.
