REA set to light Maheba Refugees camp

Maheba refugee resettlement will this year receive its share of electricity from the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) under special projects arrangements.

REA CEO Linus Chanda told journalists at a media briefing that REA has received the highest allocation for development ever in the history of Zambia to the tune of 1.7 billion

Chanda explained that the REA Board of directors at its sitting last December approved and allocated funds for special projects that will see the electrification of chiefdom in Itezhi-Tezhi and Matanda village in Luapula.

Besides, Chanda explained, the projects will so extend to electrifying schools infrastructure, health centres and magistrates complex.

He said the ascertain percent has been reserved for projects targeting women led companies as a measure to build capacity in the women.

He indicated that this unprecedented support coming from government to REA shows the commitment government has to achieving the desire to improve the quality live the beneficiaries on rural areas.

He said electricity in rural ares is catalyst to any meaningful development for the people living in a given area.

He said REA will remain resolute to ensuring that the government plan to power the country by the set goal of 2030 is realised.
