Zambia Women’s National Team coach Bruce Mwape has announced his 28-member squad for the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship.

The squad his however a subject of debate among Women’s football followers with several questionable names making the list ahead of deserving players.

Surprisingly Green Buffaloes Women’s Football club fringe player Quincy Malikani has made the squad getting her maiden call up ahead of Green Eagles star midfielder Natasha Nanyangwe who misses out under unclear circumstances.

Olympics qualification tournament top goalscorer Grace Chanda leads the squad together with Lushomo Mweemba, Agness Musesa, Ochumba Oseke Lubanji, Avell Chitundu, and Vast Phiri.

National Assembly goalkeeper Agness Fabiola Banda also makes a return to the squad.

The team entered camp on Thursday afternoon and is expected to start training on Friday morning.

The Copper Queens will compete with Eswatini, Namibia, and Uganda in Group C of the championship which will be played in Nelson Mandela Bay from September 28-October 9.

Their first match will be against Eswatini on 30 September before facing Namibia three days later. Africa’s sole representatives at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will wrap up their Group C campaign with a fixture against guests Uganda on 5 October.
