Provide Proper Sanitary Facilities In CBD-MoH

By Lomphande Muzumi

The Ministry of Health is calling on the Lusaka City Council to ensure all hygiene practices are followed by street vendors on Lumumba road and Simon Mwewa lane to avoid an outbreak of water borne diseases.

Government recently announced that it has allowed street vending at specific hours in Lusaka along Simon Mwewa lane and Lumumba road.

But Ministry of Health Spokesperson Dr Abel Kabalo tells Phoenix News that if proper sanitation levels are not maintained, this may lead to an outbreak of waterborne diseases such as cholera.

Dr Kabalo says if street vending is now allowed in some parts of the central business district, the council should ensure traders easily access sanitary facilities and ensure consistent garbage collection.
