The Civil Aviation Authority -CAA- has called on the Chingola Municipal Council to protect and provide security around Kasompe Airstrip.
Civil Aviation Authority Acting Board Chairperson, Patrick Nswana says the investment at Kasompe Airstrip is huge and needs to be protected.
Mr. Nswana says government does not have money to relocate aerodromes simply because of some minor setbacks such as taking care of the facility and providing security around the area.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Nswana said this when he led a team from the Civil Aviation Authority that inspected the Airstrip.
And CAA Director General, Gabriel Lesa suggested that the airstrip be fenced to avoid any possible encroachment and theft of important equipment.
Meanwhile, speaking when the team called on him at his office, Chingola Mayor, Titus Tembo said ever since the airstrip was handed over to the local authority, no plan has taken off due to lack of capacity on how to run the facility.
Mr. Tembo called on the CAA to consider training council officers on how to handle the matters raised at the airstrip.
He said apart from upscaling economic activities, the airstrip will also promote tourism in the district.
