PROF. BABOO DIES

Prominent Professor of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at the University of Zambia, Kumar Sridutt Baboo has died.

Professor Baboo died last night after a short illness.

UNZA Spokesperson Brenda Bukowa has confirmed the death of Professor Baboo in a statement issued today.

Dr. Bukowa said the deceased was a professor of Public Health and tropical medicine at the University since 1979 when he joined the institution.

She said Professor Baboo rose to be a prominent figure in the same field both in Zambia and the Sub-Saharan region.

And UNZA Vice Chancellor, Luke Mumba said the passing on of Professor Baboo is a huge loss to the University Community and public at large.

Professor Mumba said the late academician was a source of wisdom and knowledge on issues around Public Health and Tropical diseases.

The UNZA Vice Chancellor has expressed a deep sense of sorrow saying Prof. Baboo was an instrumental figure in the fighting COVID-19 as he was part of the team championing the fight against the pandemic in the country.

He added that Professor Baboo selflessly offered himself for leadership to the betterment of UNZA and Zambia at large.
