President Lungu Urges Defense Forces To Be More Innovative

President Lungu has reiterated the need for the defense forces to diversify from their traditional role of providing national security and venture into other economic activities to help achieve sustainable national development.

Speaking at the Zambia Air Force end of year gala dinner in Lusaka last evening, the head of state who is also commander in chief of the defense forces said the defense forces must be more innovative and take a leading role in research and development in areas such as agriculture and technology.

resident Lungu is of the view that by investing in agricultural research and adopting modern farming methods, the defense forces can help mitigate the challenges posed by the effects of climate change and contribute to the country’s food basket.

At the same event, ZAF commander lt. General David Muma said the Zambia air force remains committed to providing not only national security, but also to compliment government efforts on the country’s development agenda.
