President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says he wants to see a quick implementation of  the TWO Billion United States Dollar investment pledge in renewable energy in Zambia.

The President says a team has remained in the United Arab Emirates to conclude work on the implementation plan.

About 2000 megawatts will be added to the national grid once the energy agreement signed yesterday between ZESCO and MASDAR, a key funding entity of the United Arab Emirates, is actualised.

The two firms will jointly develop and deploy large solar projects across the country.

Speaking on arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, President HICHILEMA said specific sites are being identified to set up the solar power plants.

The President said major investments being injected in the energy sector will soon start bearing fruit.

Yesterday President HICHILEMA witnessed the signing of a Joint Development Agreement for investment in renewable energy between, ZESCO and MASDAR.

The President was in the United Arab Emirates to attend the Sustainability week.

Meanwhile, President HICHILEMA said the scheduled visit by the International Monetary Fund -IMF- Managing Director KRISTALINA GEORGIEVA to Zambia means a lot for the country.
