PRESIDENT HICHILEMA CHALLENGES POLICE

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has challenged the Zambia Police Service to work at gaining public confidence and respect.

President HICHILEMA says it is unacceptable that the public in the past lost respect for the police which he says led to lawlessness.

He says it is important for the Police Service and public to develop mutual respect so that law and order is maintained in the country.

President HICHILEMA says the police should ensure that the execute their mandate in a professional way.

The President said this during the Pass Out Parade of 1,298 of Paramilitary Officers at the Geoffrey Mukuma Paramilitary Training School in Sondela, Kafue District.

The Pass Out parade was held under the theme Enhancing Service Delivery through Professional Training of Police Officers to Secure Prosperity and National Security.

President HICHILEMA noted that government is aware of the challenges that the training school is facing and will ensure that the issues are adequately addressed.

And, President HICHILEMA said his administration is diligently working hard to change the economic situation in the country.

He said government has a plan that will be implemented in January, as the four months that the UPND ascended to office have been used to lay a foundation.

And, Minister of Home Affairs JACK MWIIMBU said the ministry is committed to ensuring that the Service adheres to the rule of law, human rights and freedoms.

Mr. MWIIMBU said the men on parade are an additional force in maintaining law and order in the country,

He said the service needs more manpower in order to reduce the Police citizen ratio.

And, Inspector General of Police LEMMY KAJOBA said the paramilitary officers working with other security wings are ready to re-enforce security.

Mr. KAJOBA said the paramilitary officers are able to respond swiftly to quench any form of violence and disorderliness.

Meanwhile, Geoffrey Mukuma Paramilitary Training School Divisional Commander, YOBE LUHANA called on Government to assist the training school in making it habitable for training.
