Pres. Lungu Urges Peaceful Campaigns

Pres. Lungu PresserPresident Edgar Lungu has used the occasion to mark African Freedom Day to remind political players about the avoidance of violence during campaigns for the August 11 elections.

The Head of State laid wreaths at the Freedom Statue and later headed to the Embassy Park where he laid wreaths at the resting places of the departed former Heads of State.

He said that political parties should guard against behaviour that could threaten the peace of this country.

“We need a violence free election and guard against behaviour that threatens the peace of the country especially in light of the campaigns,” President Lungu said.

He also said that the government was working on improving the system of honouring freedom fighters.

President Lungu said there had been complaints in the past that the system was too centralized leaving out candidates from outside Lusaka.
