POWER TOOLS GIVEN 7-DAY ULTIMATUM

The Road Transport and Safety Agency -RTSA- has given Power Tools Bus Services a 7-day ultimatum to explain why their road service licence should not be suspended or revoked for allowing their vehicles to move at night.
In a statement made available to ZNBC News, RTSA Head of Public Relations Fred Mubanga says Power Tools has been summoned for defying the provisions of Statutory Instrument Number 76 of 2016 which restricts the movement of Public Service Vehicles at night.
Mr. Mubanga said this comes in a wake of a road crash on December 28th, 2018 around 04:22 hours, involving a power Tools bus registration number ALD 1807 were one person died and five sustained injuries.
He said the crash occurred on the Kapiri Mposhi – Ndola road, 20 kilometers from Ndola at Rainbow area.
Mr. Mubanga said accident investigations conducted by RTSA have revealed that the cause of the accident was dangerous driving on the part of the Power Tools driver.
He said the driver failed to notice a stationary vehicle on the road and ended up hitting into it despite a warning device having been mounted to alert oncoming traffic of a breakdown ahead.
He says RTSA is worried with the deteriorating road safety record for Power Tools bus services which recorded 2 road crashes in a space of 3 days, between December 28th and 31st , 2018 in which 4 people died.
