Power Generation To Dwindle Further At Kariba Dam If Rainfall Activities Do Not Significantly Improve

By Logic Lukwanda

Government says if rainfall activities do not quickly significantly improve, the country will be in a dangerous situation as power generation is further expected to dwindle at the Kariba dam.

Finance minister Bwalya Ng’andu says there will be need to run the turbines at the Kariba dam at the rate that does not completely deplete the water quickly as a precautionary intervention. The Finance Minister has told Phoenix News that he hopes that rainfall activities picks up and boost electricity generation especially at Kafue north to improve the situation despite the 300 megawatts of power imports coming in from Eskom in south Africa for one month.

Zambia’s electricity deficit now stands at over 800 megawatts.
