Police Keep Southern Province Under Watch

Police In MandevuThe Zambia Police says they are keeping tabs on happenings in Southern Province where tensions are high following the outcome of the August 11 elections.

Since the announcement of the winner on Monday some parts of Southern Province have been experiencing a fragile peace with some riots having broken out on Monday leading to looting of shops and attacks on suspected Patriotic Front supporters.

Inspector General of Kakoma Kanganja said the police were patrolling the province to curb any possible acts of violence.

The random riots have also been scantily experienced in some parts of North Western and Western provinces where the UPND commands strong support.

Over 150 people have been arrested following the post election violence.
