POLICE, FEMALE DIE IN ROAD ACCIDENT

A Police Officer from the Kitwe Police Frauds Office and an unknown female have died in a road accident near the Michael Chilufya Sata Toll Plaza on the Kitwe-Ndola Dual Carriage Way after their vehicle hit into a truck.
Detective Inspector Peter Matandiko of Kitwe, who was driving a Toyota
Prado registration BCA 7262 hit into a truck carrying building blocks a few meters away from the toll gate around 18:45 hours.
Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Charity Katanga says the Police officer misjudged the distance of the truck which was ahead of him and hit into it due to excessive speed.
Mrs. Katanga says Inspector Matandiko was carrying an unknown female
aged between 25 and 30 who also died on the spot.
When the ZNBC News crew arrived at the scene, a few minutes after the accident, Fire fighters from the Ndola Fire Brigade struggled for over 30 minutes to remove the bodies which were stuck in the Prado.
The fire fighters had to use a grinder to cut through the heavily damaged vehicle to remove the bodies which were severely damaged.
And the driver of the truck Webster Makasa told ZNBC News that as he was slowing down to enter the Michael Chilufya Sata Toll Plaza, he heard a loud bang and initially, thought it was a tyre burst.
Mr. Makasa said he stopped his truck to check what happened only to find a heavily damaged vehicle which was stuck at the end of his trailer.
He said he was transporting building blocks from Ndola to Kasumbalesa when the accident happened.
