PF Warns Independent Candidates Riding On Ruling Party
The ruling Patriotic Front has warned Independent candidates riding on the party wave in the campaigns even where it has fielded candidates.
Party chairperson for elections Jean Kapata said it was wrong for Independent candidates to use ruling party regalia in their campaigns.
Some candidates running as candidates especially those overlooked in the adoption process by the ruling party have been playing the Edgar Lungu card tapping into the President’s popularity at times overshadowing ruling party candidates.
Kapata said it was difficult for the Independent candidates to be counted in the PF fold as their loyalty was not guaranteed.
She said the party had written to the Electoral Commission of Zambia to stop Independent candidates from using ruling PF regalia in their campaigns.
“They have to stop because there could be cases where some Independent candidates win elections over PF candidates and when they get to parliament we cannot count on their support. They may even work against us in parliament,” Kapata said.
The ruling party has fielded candidates in all but two constituencies out of the 156.
