PF, UPND SHARE SPOILS IN LUFWANYAMA

(ZANIS)The ruling Patriotic Front party -PF- and United Party for National Development -UPND- have shared victory in five local government by-elections in Lufwanyama district on the Copperbelt province.

The UPND has retained three wards, while the PF has scooped two.

UPND candidate Lemmy Mubanga won in Milopa ward with 352 votes against PF candidate Lillian Phiri who got 279 votes.

In Kansanta ward, UPND candidate Peter Mukuma emerged victorious after pouring 309 and PF candidate Florence Kayimana managed to get 177 votes.

Grehian Sawalonga from the UPND also won Luswishi Ward with 352 votes while his PF opponent Rasford Lungu got 257 votes.

Meanwhile, PF candidate Collins Hamwibu emerged victorious in Mushingashi ward after collecting 345 votes against his closest rival from the UPND, Mwashi Matela who polled 282 votes, while Rayson Mukabila from the EFF polled ten votes.

PF’s Evans Chipupu scooped Chibanga Ward after amassing 7-hundred and 95 votes and UPND candidate Kabanda Chewe only scored 470 votes.

Lufwanyama district Returning Officer Lumbwe Kalifungwa announced the results at the totaling centre this morning after the final counting of votes.

Meanwhile, PF party officials have described their victory in the two wards as a big milestone, justifying that all the seats were previously for the opposition.

And UPND district chairperson Justine Mwalikwa expressed happiness for having retained three wards.
