PF chasing CBU Students from exams disturbing – HH
UPND presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema says he is disturbed by reports that the PF government has barred Students at Copperbelt University from sitting for exams.
In a statement to Zambian Eye Wednesday, June 15, 2016, Hichilema says the Students should be allowed to write exams and made to pay later when collecting results.
Hichilema commonly referred to as HH says:
We are once more receiving disturbing reports of a number of our young Zambians at Copperbelt University being barred from sitting for their exams due to their inability to pay the fees in full.
Rather than chase these youths away so that they completely lose out on a qualification they have studied hard for, our approach would be to allow them to sit their exams as planned. Thereafter it is possible to come to a sensible arrangement for the release of their results based on their ability to pay.
In such cases there is a need for government to be sensible and compassionate. After all the best investment we can make as a country is to invest in our people and education remains the most powerful weapon we have in the fight against inequality.
Our 10 Point Plan for Zambia is very clear on the provision of affordable and quality education for our people as we believe that is the best investment for our future generations. As UPND we are pledging to open up access to education so that every child can access tuition from early childhood to institutions of higher learning. Our position is that no young Zambian should miss out because of the financial status of their family.
Our country has the resources. It’s a case of prioritisation, cutting government waste and brining an end to corruption.
