PF Challenges UPND Over Councillors Resignations

January 15, 2020January 15, 202015The Patriotic Front in North Western province has challenged the United Party for National Development -UPND -to cite a law that allows councillors to rescind their decision once they resign.PF Provincial Chairperson Jackson Kungo says there is no law that allows a former councilor to reverse their decision. He says the former UPND Munyambala Ward councillor resigned with immediate effect and therefore, the later decision to remain as Councillor does NOT hold.Mr Kungo told ZNBC News in a statement that the resignation is still valid and that the former civic leader no longer holds the position. He said there is NO provision in the Constitution that allows for the withdrawal or retraction of the earlier course of action.Mr Kungo said the former civic leader’s intentions to immediately leave office has already been communicated to Electoral Commission of Zambia in line with the amended republican constitution Article No 158 (1) (a) through the Council Secretary’s office. He has maintained that as a far as the party is concerned, the by election in Mufumbwe’s Munyambala ward will go on in accordance with Article 57 of the constitution of Zambia.
