PF Cadres Disrupt Hichilema’s Mandevu Visit
Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has accused ruling party Patriotic Front cadres of causing a fracas in Mandevu yesterday.
Hichilema toured one of the most populous constituencies in the capital but there was confusion when Hichilema’s supporters clashed with PF cadres.
The opposition leader said; “We undertook a tour of Mandevu Constituency this afternoon to the excitement of the residents. We fully appreciate the challenges they are facing, which we intend to deal with immediately as part of our 10 Point Plan for Zambia.
“As usual, our tour was disrupted by unruly PF thugs who started throwing stones at us despite the massive police presence. We remain grateful to those police officers who work hard under very difficult conditions.”
Hichilema has appealed to UPND cadres not to engage in violent acts.
“As UPND, we are determined to root out this scourge of violence that is engulfing our country. We keep appealing for peace to prevail despite our limitations of not having instruments of power to direct law enforcement agencies such as the police, and others to reclaim their role in society as an institution that can protect all citizens equally regardless of their political affiliations.
“To our people, especially youths, please drop down those guns, machetes, axes, stones, pangas and other offensive weapons that are being used to hack fellow citizens.”
Police officers were called in to quell the confusion. The men in uniform were, however, not spared and become victims of brutal attacks.
