Chipolopolo striker Patson Daka opened his Austrian Bundesliga goal account on Saturday as he scored the second goal in Redbull Salzburg’s 3-1 win over Wolfsberger AC away at the Lavanttal Arena in Wolfsberg.
Salzburg came into the match without defensive midfielder Zlatko Junuzovic, Solet, and Karim Adeyemi who are all out injured. Jerome Onguéné also missed the match as he recently tested positive for COVID-19.
Patson Daka led the line alongside Mergïm Berisha with Noah Okafor and Dominik Szoboszlai on the wings and Antoine Bernede partnering Enock Mwepu in the middle of the park.
Salzburg started strong and came close in the early minutes as Enock Mwepu’s shot from outside the box missed the goal by inches. The hosts were reduced to ten men after defender Luka Lochoshvili was given a direct redcard for a foul on Patson Daka.
Wolfsberger’s luck turned from bad to worse five minutes later as Eliel Peretz put Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross into his own net, 1-0 Salzburg.
Six minutes later Salzburg star forward Patson Daka doubled the lead following a nice pass from captain Andreas Ulmer, first lobbying the goalkeeper before shrugging off a defender to open his 2020/2021 Bundesliga goal account.
Both teams tried to score but Cican Stankovic and Alexander Kofler made brilliant saves to keep the scoreline at 2-0. Salzburg finally got their third goal eight minutes to time as second half substitute Sekou Koita beat Kofler with a beauty second-half.
With Stankovic looking like heading for a clean sheet, Max Wöber made a blunder in additional time gifting Croatian attacker Dario Vizinger the ball who made no mistake and pulled one back for Wolfsberger but it was a little bit too late as the match finished 3-1 in favour of the defending Champions.
Patson Daka has now scorfavoroals in his last eight games while Enock Mwepu was again very impressive in midfield before being withdrawn for Mo Camara.
Salzburg line up:
Stankovic; Ulmer, Ramalho, Wöber, Kristensen; Bernede (72nd Ashimeru), Mwepu (86th Camara), Szoboszlai (46th Okugawa), Okafor (61st Sucic); Berisha (61st Koita), Daka
